Virginia Commonwealth coach Anthony Grant has agreed in principal to a contract to become Alabama's next coach
After a courtship that began with UA Director of Athletics Mal Moore received permission from VCU to speak with Grant last weekend, and culminated with a highly-publicized visit to the Capstone on Wednesday, Grant agreed to accept the job on Friday.
Grant led VCU to two NCAA Tournament appearances in three years as coach of the Rams. His three-year record at the school is 76-25, including two Colonial Athletic Association Tournament championships, and three CAA regular season titles.
He replaces interim coach Philip Pearson, who took over for former coach Mark Gottfried in midseason
